How to Find Your Passion in Life and Increase Happiness

You may be reading this asking yourself “Why can’t I find my passion?” Passion is something many people spend their whole life looking for. It’s something that may change throughout your life.

The good news is it’s something you can find and when you truly understand what your passion is you can find it. It may be buried deep inside but when you bring it to the surface you begin to really live. That’s what this article is intended to do, teach you how to find your passion.

What is Passion?

Quote for how to find your passion. "To succeed you have to believe in something with such passion that it becomes a reality." Anita Roddick

Before we begin to find our passion, we need to understand what passion really means. Oxford Dictionary defines passion as a strong, barely controllable emotion.

Let that sink in for a second. Do you have anything in your life that you feel strongly about? Maybe your children and family. But does that feeling present itself in other areas of your life?

Do you have passion for your career? Are you excited to go to work or is it something you dread? How about the things you do outside of work? Are they things that keep you excited or are you doing things like lounging in front of the television just to pass the time?

Why is finding your passion important?

The more passion you have in your life, the happier you will be. Doing things you are passionate about motivates you to give it your all and do the best you can.

The more you have passion for something, the higher your chances of success. Take your career for example. Career passions are a huge step toward a happy life. If you dread going to work every day, will you give it your all? Probably not.

Even if you try your mind is not 100% into it. Now on the other hand, if you love what you do for a living, going to work is easy and fun. You seem to lose track of time. It provides fulfillment in your life instead of just paying the bills. So obviously it’s going to be effortless to give your job 100%.

Self-Reflection

Self-reflection is extremely important in making your passion come to the surface. It means taking a moment and asking yourself some questions. You may feel like you already know yourself pretty well but take a moment to answer the following questions:

  • What do you want to do with the rest of your life?
  • Is your life on track, and where you want it to be?
  • What motivates you?
  • What keeps you going forward when things get tough?
  • Your legacy is the mark you leave on the world. What mark do you want to leave?
  • What are my passions in life right now?

You will get the most out of writing down your answers to these questions but that is completely optional. The most important part is to get yourself thinking about this. You may not even have all the answers right now or your answers might change a bit so it’s vital to revisit the questions at later times.

Try New Things

The thing you’ve been looking for is likely something you’ve never done before. This means you have to get out there and try out new things. You don’t want to let your pesky comfort zone get in the way of finding your passion in life, do you?

Start small like saying hi to a stranger or even taking a different way home from work. As you become more and more comfortable outside your comfort zone, new possibilities will come your way. If you would like some more information on getting out of your comfort zone check out this article I wrote to help you seize personal growth.

Volunteer

Volunteering is another great way to try out new things and help out others at the same time. You never it might even be your passion to help others out. It is extremely satisfying to dedicate your time to helping other people out when they really need it.

Volunteer Match is a great site for finding different opportunities to volunteer in your own neighborhood. This site is dedicated to matching volunteers to opportunities that suit their skills and desires.

Give It Some Time

Time passion quote "Passion gives you the motivation to keep trying, even if you fail time after time." David A. Hunter

Embracing change can be both exhilarating and challenging, but it’s essential to remember that transformation rarely occurs overnight. It’s a gradual process that requires time, dedication, and patience. You might find yourself longing for that moment of epiphany when your passion suddenly becomes clear, but it’s important not to lose heart if it doesn’t happen right away.

As you journey through life, keep your eyes and heart open to the possibilities that surround you. Nourish your curiosity and explore new experiences, even if your passion remains elusive. Over time, you’ll find that the dedication and effort you’ve invested in your personal growth will lead you closer to discovering your true calling. Remember, the path of self-discovery is a winding one, but with perseverance and an open mind, you’ll eventually find your way.

What Did You Want to Be as a Kid

Think about what you wanted to be as a kid. This may not still apply to the current but then again, maybe it does. It may not be something you are still capable of but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a way to take a part of that dream as a kid and live a part of it or support others doing it.

I can tell you like a lot of young boys I wanted to be a soldier when I was a kid. An Army Ranger or Navy Seal to be exact. When I grew up I decided the Air Force was better suited to me. However, if I still wanted something to do with the Army there are plenty of things I can do like volunteering with veteran agencies or helping the Wounded Warrior program.

Ask Friends

Don’t underestimate the power of your friendships when it comes to discovering your passions. Engage in conversations with your friends about their own interests and dreams. Feel free to revisit the questions posed to you earlier in this article and ask them the same. While your passion might not directly align with theirs, their enthusiasm and experiences can be a catalyst for sparking your own ideas and aspirations.

As you listen to your friends share their passions, you may find yourself inspired by their journey or drawn to elements of their pursuits. Keep an open mind and consider how their experiences might resonate with you on a deeper level. This exchange of ideas and reflections can often lead to valuable insights about your own life’s path. Embrace the opportunity to learn from those around you, as their passions might just be the key to pursuing your passions.

Never Quit

Don’t stop the exploration of your passion, because it’s important for enjoying life. Even when you find something you really like, keep trying to find more things that make you excited. Life is about learning and finding out more about yourself. If you start to feel upset or have problems, don’t let that stop you from looking for your passion.

Remember, it’s normal to have some problems in life. Use these hard times to help you learn and get better at handling challenges. Keep going and don’t give up on finding what makes you passionate. By doing this, you’ll make your life more interesting and also help others to be inspired.
